Metamorphasis Powerhouse Company is seeking dedicated volunteers to assist with sorting, labeling and placing books inside our Book Vending Machine at Dutchtown Elementary School.

As a "Just Say YES to Reading" Book Vending Machine Volunteer you will help organize donated and purchased books, apply QR coded labels, and ensure they are ready for distribution to students and their families inside our state-of-the-art book vending machine.

This opportunity supports our mission to promote literacy and a love of reading among young learners, helping to build home libraries and a connection between school and home. 

Volunteers must be detail-oriented, dependable, and able to pass a background check conducted by Henry County Schools.

Location: Dutchtown Elementary School

Time commitment: Flexible scheduling during school hours, but preferred 8am-12pm

The virtual Volunteer Coordinator for Metamorphasis Powerhouse Company will collaborate with the programs team and site coordinator to effectively manage and support volunteer logistics.

This role focuses on coordinating volunteer opportunities listed in the United Way Volunteer Portal, ensuring smooth engagement for events, school programs, and community initiatives. Responsibilities include scheduling and communicating with volunteers to meet program needs from the portal while fostering positive relationships to enhance the impact of our mission. 

This remote role may occasionally help programs team staff share recruitment fliers, onboarding trainings, and volunteer schedules. This position requires excellent organizational, communication and tech-savvy skills to effectively manage volunteer activities across our eight-county service area.

Must have access to phone and laptop/computer/WIFI

This volunteer opportunity is open to anyone 18yrs+ with excellent communication skills 

Flexible hours based on your availability between 9am-5pm M-FRI

Help Metamorphasis Powerhouse Company (MPC) expand our reach with our Mobile Academic Classroom by helping to identify and coordinate public spaces where we can popup to provide free literacy, STEM and career readiness workshops and resource fairs across a designated regional area.

Volunteer Site Coordinator will assist MPC leadership to seek out potential partners and assist with scheduling dates and identifying requirements for public spaces including but not limited to parks, recreational facilities, retail location parking lots.

This is primarily a virtual at-home volunteer opportunity that may require a little travel. 

Volunteers interested in this position must possess a strong communication skills- verbal and written, be highly organized, have proficient use/familiarity with Zoom, professional attitude and be willing to follow up promptly with partners.

Our Transformation Team is a core team of college students, educators, parents and community stakeholders serving as subject-matter experts to provide a collective voice for the needs of their community. We need YOUR HELP because we want the mobile academic classroom to serve the unique needs of the communities we serve over an 8 county footprint currently as we continue co-creating solutions with the community to overcome learning loss. 

Weekly meetings on 10am-11am where volunteers will help us prioritize Phase I of our conversion of the shuttle bus into the classroom for 2023.

Metamorphasis Powerhouse Company together with BK International Education Consultancy are the proud recipients of the United Way DeKalb SPARK Prize for a uniquely new school readiness program where preschool children, their families, and Early Childhood providers learn side-by-side! 

During our learning experiences, students and their families enjoy a virtual storytime followed by a customized STEM activity that brings the story alive, and inspires the child to go beyond the pages and the pictures, while developing a love of reading for pleasure. 

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to record themselves reading from our culturally diverse book wishlist! Your amazing read-alouds will help us scale access to this program for all counties statewide, and create an Online Storytime Bank of Books being read-aloud that can be used by families and Early Childhood Providers to pair with our STEM learning experiences for home and school based on each story.

Turn on "record to device" in settings. This will automatically download your video to your computer 

Choose a quiet & clean area indoors to film. Limit all distractions that could impact audio or visual quality. 

· Film using a smartphone or digital video camera on a steady surface.

· Film horizontally.

· Speak clearly.

· Practice reading your book aloud until you feel confident with your words.

Begin recording on Zoom (make sure you are using our Transform The SPARK Virtual Background)

· Start by introducing yourself: “Hi, my name is (your name), and I’m here to read (book title) on behalf of the Transform The SPARK program. This book is written by (author)” and illustrated by (illustrator).

· Smile!

· Get into character by using fun voices, props & costumes.

· Show the pictures in the book as you are reading.

Pause, engage with the audience and ask questions to help spur children to think about the story, characters, and/or pictures. Ask things like "What do you think will happen next?" or "What do you see happening on this page?"

"What is (insert character's name) doing right here?

Emphasize any repeating words or patterns and call out vocabulary words that may be new to a toddler, emerging Preschooler or kindergartner when appropriate

· Be sure to read at a pace in which the audience can follow along.

· Review your video to ensure your face & the book can be seen clearly, audio quality is good, and there are no visual distractions.

· Submit the video as a .mp4 video file Zoom recording via email at volunteer@metincpowerco.org.

It is required that the video be no longer than 10 minutes. Please contact volunteer@metincpowerco.org subject line "TTS Storytime Video" for support including instructions on how to convert a video file to a shareable .mp4 video file.

These videos will be compiled as a YouTube series and playlist with Metamorphasis Powerhouse Company and BK International Education Consultancy and shared in our customized Transform The SPARK Google Classroom with our program participants. By participating, you agree to our media policy.
