Volunteers will partner to read alongside select 3rd grade students from Boyd Elementary School that are performing critically in reading and are in need of additional support. Following the book, volunteers will ask the student questions to monitor the student’s reading comprehension.
All volunteers will need to have computer access to Zoom in order to participate in the program. United Way of Greater Atlanta will provide the direct link for login a few days prior to the volunteer opportunity.
Best Practices for Volunteers:
- Be prepared to have both microphone and video turned on during volunteer activities.
- Be seated in a well-lit area, away from any potential distractions.
- Do not use profanity or harsh language.
- Be punctual as a brief training will take place before students log on.
- Remain encouraging as students navigate through reading difficulties and/or technology issues.
