Volunteer Role
See volunteers in action: Click Here for our Volunteer Video

You will coach a small group of students through the simulation, while sharing your life experiences that will help make the day authentic for the students. In JA BizTown, you’ll guide students as they make decisions around running their business, spending their hard-earned paycheck, and generating a profit. You will help them discover the value of themselves, their education, and their future beyond the classroom walls. No matter your profession, your life experiences qualify you to be a successful volunteer! Please read our volunteer waiver in advance. You will receive an online version to sign during the sign-up process.

Looking ahead, our students will lead our businesses, advance our communities and discover breakthroughs. Today, we give them the opportunity to experience these possibilities. JA BizTown creates an unmatched experience where students are able to interact within a simulated economy and take on the role of citizen, consumer and employee. Here, students not only discover the intricacies of being a professional and member of the community, but also discover the abundance of opportunities available within their city.

COVID-19 Safety Protocols & Expectations
Volunteers are vital to our mission and not only serve as coaches, but also as role models and a source of inspiration for our students. With that in mind, JA of Georgia is welcoming in-person volunteers at our JA Discovery Centers. JA is in close collaboration with our school districts as students prepare for their arrival at our facilities this school year. Below are the JA protocols and recommendations:

  • Before committing to in-person volunteering, we suggest referring to the CDC COVID-19 recommendations.
  • Because the local jurisdiction of Atlanta is requiring face masks, all volunteers will need to wear face masks inside the JA Discovery Center in Atlanta. JA will continue to monitor local government and school district policies and will keep volunteers updated if there are any significant changes. For more information: https://www.atlantaga.gov/home/showpublisheddocument/52010
  • To prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to reduce the potential risk of exposure to all parties, we are asking volunteers to not participate in JA’s in-person activities if showing any symptoms of COVID-19 (see CDC list), or if there is a known recent exposure to any individual diagnosed with COVID-19 or if any individual is currently waiting for test results confirming the possibility of a COVID-19 diagnosis.
  • Volunteer training will include new safety protocols as well as effective practices to engage safely with students in our simulations.
  • JA will continue to encourage frequent hand washing and social distancing when possible.
